School History

Nonsuch Primary School is built on land that was part of Nonsuch Farm. Nonsuch Farmhouse was located in Gravel Bank; the earliest mention known is in 1739. Folklore says that King Charles hid in the barn when being chased by the Royalists. During the war, the land was used by the RSPCA for sick and retired horses and a barrage balloon was located there.  With the history of the farm in mind, estate residents were inspired to name the school ‘Nonsuch’.

Nonsuch Primary School opened to pupils on 4th March 1974, six months later than planned, and continues to educate generations of families on the Woodgate Valley Estate.
