Personal Development Support

At Nonsuch Primary School, we focus on developing the whole child through a diverse Personal Development programme. Our goal is to create opportunities that enhance confidence, resilience, and community spirit while expanding children’s experiences beyond the classroom. Through a variety of activities and initiatives, we support the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical growth of every pupil. We aim to instil lifelong skills, values, and interests that help children succeed both in school and in their wider lives. Below, you can find details of the personal development opportunities we offer to our pupils.

Let’s Go Zero Campaign – Nature

Picture1

We had an unused area near Reception that ‘Gardening Club’ worked hard to redevelop. We applied to @TheTreeCouncil for some trees and were very excited when they sent us five fruit trees!

Picture2

After preparing the ground, we were able to plant our trees, and mulch them, on Thursday 13th February 2025! We also designed name labels for them.

We have been busy observing, watering and taking care of our trees. This week, we were excited to see that our trees are starting to ‘wake up’ as the tree buds are starting to open!

Gardening Club are also busy designing and planting ready for their ‘Mealbarrow,’ which will be on display at The Gardener’s World Live Show at the NEC in June. A highlight of their year will be a visit to see their ‘Mealbarrow’ in situ!

In addition to caring for our trees, Gardening Club have been busy chitting, planting and nurturing our potatoes for our lunches in the Summer Term! They also started the ’Beneath the Soil’ experiment so that they can observe the potato’s progress!

bookshop Bunker

During Spring term, all children in the school have visited our very own Nonsuch Book Shop, where they chose 2 books to take home with them. They had a wide variety of books to choose from and absolutely loved picking which ones they wanted. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces and all thanks to books! A huge thank you to the Children’s Book Project for the fabulous assortment of books we received.

Year 6 ‘ Come Dine with Me’

Year 6 completed cooking their main courses from their DT unit, ‘Come dine with me’. The food turned out amazing, they even baked their own bread; the smell was heavenly! After creating their meals, they then used scored cards that they’d designed themselves to rate all the dishes. Our very own ‘Nonsuch MasterChef judge’ even came to have a taste!

World Book Day

We had wonderful fun on World Book Day dressing as our favourite book characters!
In our classes, we read our chosen book-Pokko and the Drum (Matthew Forsythe). This text inspired our writing (for our display) and the creation of musical instruments for ‘Pokko’s Parade!’

Finally, we held a well-attended ‘Parent Workshop.’ Both halls were full of children and adults working alongside each other!

Air Quality Monitors

EarthSense have fitted Air Quality Monitors as poor air quality remains the single biggest environmental risk to public health, with children being particularly vulnerable. Cleaner air means a better learning environment and improved physical and mental health for children, staff and parents. The monitors will provide real-time data (via the QR code linked app) and help us to improve knowledge and awareness at Nonsuch into physical activity, healthy eating, active travel, road safety, anti-idling and ultimately climate change.

Climate Schools 180

We applied, were shortlisted and then accepted onto the ‘Climate School 180’ initiative. Working collaboratively with our trainer, we will develop and embed climate change as a theme across the curriculum and use the school grounds as a learning environment for all pupils. We will audit our outdoor space, creating the opportunity for children to use the school grounds to consider the impact of our changing climate and the nature-based solutions we can implement.

Mother’s Day Assembly Year 1

Year 1 delivered an informative assembly, where they taught us the history of Mother’s Day and ways that we celebrate it.

Year 1 showed their gratitude to the special ladies in their lives-Mums, Nans, Aunties etc. Finally, they sang the song, ‘You are my sunshine.’

Half-Termly Housepoints Reward – Spring 2

For earning the most housepoints in the half-term, pupils in the ‘House of Air’ enjoyed their reward. Everyone worked together in teams for the Easter Egg hunt. They also chose to use iPads/laptops, colour or play their games from home. It was a lovely, sunny afternoon of fun!

Choir

We are thrilled to announce the formation of the Nonsuch School Choir! This exciting new venture will bring together students with a passion for singing and music, creating a harmonious community within our school.

We are pleased to share that the choir will be performing at two special events this year:

  1. 30th June at Newman University
  2. 17th July at Birmingham Symphony Hall

These performances will showcase the talent and hard work of our students, and we are eagerly looking forward to these wonderful opportunities. We invite all parents, students, and members of the community to join us in celebrating the debut of the Nonsuch School Choir.

Stay tuned for more updates and information about our choir’s journey. We can’t wait to see you at our events!

Magic Breakfast

Before ‘Magic Breakfast’ started, pupils said that they:
• Were tired and hungry,
• Found it difficult to concentrate in class,
• Worried if their tummy might ‘rumble.’

Each morning, staff busily prepare, and deliver, a healthy ‘Magic Breakfast’ for each pupil.

After eating our healthy ‘Magic Breakfast,’ we feel:
• Awake and ready to learn,
• Ready to focus and concentrate in class,
• Ready to work hard!
